One Month

So like I mentioned I am way behind. Miss McKenna turned one month Sept 14. It went so fast I can hardly believe it! It was also the longest month of my life. Adjusting to two kids has been a major struggle for me. I also suffered with depression so I had a lot of highs and really low lows those made most days really hard. I also got mastitis 3x in her first 3 weeks of life, all on the same side and I thought I was going to die. I finally got an antibiotic and of course my luck had an allergic reaction to it... but the mastitis finally went away but really effected my supply. So I met with the lactation specialist about it and she said not to worry, we worked with McKenna's latch. We were informed that McKenna has an overbite which meant she was latching incorrectly which is what caused the mastitis because the breast was not draining completely/correctly. Great... so I decided I would pump exclusively and just feed from a bottle. It was a lot of hard work to adjust her latch on me and I didn't have enough hands or the time to do that with Lizzi in the middle of everything all the time. The supply never picked on the sick side again it was going away... the other side was doing alright but it was also depleting. This was the same thing that happened with Lizzi. I fought with my body for the next month trying to keep my supply but it left just after McKenna turned 2 months old...it was hard on me but I know I tried my best to keep it and my body just isn't cooperative when it comes to feeding babies. I think it has something to do with my hormonal imbalance I have but anyway I have moved on; as long as she is fed and healthy I am ok with how it needs to happen.

Miss McKenna gained back her birth weight plus a couple extra ounces by her two week appointment. She has had a clogged tear duct since she was born that just seems to want to hang around. Poor angel has reflux :( so she can't sleep laying down she is sleeping in a swing and she has to take medicine twice a day to help with it. It seems to be helping and we will watch it. She is a sweet sweet baby and very chill unless she wants to be heard then she can squawk as loud as she sees fit for the situation. She is only up once a night for feeding which this mommy loves. She is so strong and thinks when she is being burped is a great time to hold up her head. She doesn't see the purpose of tummy time and usually just chills or will start to fall asleep. She kinda looks like my grandpa Larsen and looks more Larsen everyday. Her little mouth is my favorite and her chubby cheeks I could kiss on forever if Lizzi would let me.

Lizzi is adjusting better than I thought, the first week was really rough on her but then once she realized baby wasn't leaving she started to accept it. She is at the point now that we really need to watch her because she isn't totally careful haha she is learning McKenna needs to be handled softly and that she needs her space. We'll get there.

McKenna is just a little bit of a thing and I love her squishy little body. Having a newborn is the best and I cannot wait to see her cute personality develop more and see how cute her and Lizzi are as toddler sisters together.
